Extravagance. Gravity. Soul. An exhibition of couture by Cristóbal Balenciaga—the Spanish high priest of the haute couture—is always a must-see. And this one in Atlanta unveils garments that have never before traveled to the U.S. The show’s 30-plus designs, which date from the 1940s to the 60s, come from the extensive collection of the Fondation Azzedine Alaïa as well as the Balenciaga Archives. Original Balenciaga-EISA sketches and communications are loans from the archives at Parodi Costume Collection. —Laura Jacobs
