Clyde’s is set in a small-town Pennsylvania diner staffed by “morons”—at least that’s what the owner, Clyde, calls her employees. To cut costs, the no-nonsense, formerly-incarcerated boss hires people recently released from jail. When Clyde hires Jason, a man whose arms are covered with white-supremacist tattoos, tensions mount, romances bloom, and the prospect of creating the perfect sandwich offers continual hope for the workers. Clyde’s is the work of Lynne Nottage, who’s won two Pulitzer Prizes for her plays. This one, which premiered on Broadway in November 2021, now heads to London. Lynette Linton, who directed the West End run of Nottage’s last play, Sweat, helms the production. —Jensen Davis
