Claudia Comte: How to Grow and Still Stay the Same Shape

July 2–12, 2020
Piazzale Mafalda di Savoia, 10098 Rivoli TO, Italy

Claudia Comte refers to herself as a “country girl at heart.” She was born in Grancy, Switzerland, a small village at the foot of the Jura mountains. It was the mornings—waking and looking up at the limestone and the blue skies—that taught her to observe the world and to see its patterns. Today, Comte makes site-specific environmental installations, in which natural phenomena are expressed in mathematical terms. At Castello di Rivoli, 11 wall “interventions” suggest the rising and falling undulations graphically tracked by scientists. For those who want to keep exploring the museum, five works by Giorgio Morandi are exhibited downstairs. —E.C.
