Music and art are synthesized in Claude Lawrence’s dynamic compositions. The jazz saxophonist, who was born in 1944 and raised in Chicago, is set to debut a series of never-before-seen paintings, generated over the past seven years. Filled with visual rhythm and staccato accents, Lawrence’s canvases range from the entirely abstract to the subtly figurative. His paintings sing with the movement of Kandinsky and the improvisational energy of the Downtown Loft Jazz scene. —Thalia Bonas
