The artist Clare Rojas began her artistic practice as a teenager in Columbus, Ohio, in the 1990s. After school and on the weekends she visited a local nursing home, where she sat for hours listening to people’s stories. She would then make poignant portraits of them with oil paint and pastels. When Rojas went on to study at the Rhode Island School of Design, she moved to print-making and abstraction, inspired by Quaker Art, Byzantine mosaics, and Native American textiles—which aligned with her Peruvian heritage. This exhibition in Charlotte presents 100 works by Rojas from the last five years, including painting, sculptures, and works on paper. —Elena Clavarino
