Christina Ramberg studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago from 1968 to 1973. While there she became part of the Chicago Imagists movement, which included Philip Hanson, Roger Brown, and Eleanor Dube. The group was known for Surrealism influenced by Pop, and Ramberg’s style was powerful. Her fragmented paintings of female body parts—hands, torsos, hair on the head—question the very meaning of a human body. Sadly, Ramberg died in 1995, at 49. With almost 100 works, the first Ramberg retrospective in almost three decades celebrates her singular vision. —Lucy Horowitz
