Dance music can be deadly serious. For the Belgian artists Charlotte Adigéry and Bolis Pupul, it’s a site of play, a place to get goofy. The duo’s latest album Topical Dancer is elastic, full of drum machines that bounce like yoga balls, gleefully pitch-shifted vocals, and strobing synthesizer freak-outs. It’s electronic pop as cultural criticism, featuring songs about sexuality, race, and doing the exact opposite of what you’re supposed to do. The duo takes the stage in Brussels at Ancient Belgique. Wear something skintight that you can really sweat in. —Sophie Kemp
