Before the advent of digital photography, 20th-century fashion photographers, street photographers, and photojournalists relied on the silver-gelatin process to create tonally rich black-and-white photographs. A new exhibition gathers the greatest prints from some of the leading photographers in the medium, from bold fashion campaigns by Richard Avedon and Irving Penn to images of the Troubles by the war photographer Don McCullin. Black-and-white prints from household names such as Hiro, Helmut Newton, and Daido Moriyama are also featured. —Paulina Prosnitz
