I still remember the Metropolitan Museum’s 2013 exhibition, “Jewels by JAR.” I was 12, and the only thing I knew about jewelry was that it made women very happy, at least according to Maid in Manhattan, Pretty Woman, and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. At the Met show, I discovered how much detail, craftsmanship, and mystery can be put into the smallest jewel. This is certainly true of the pieces in MFA Boston’s jewelry collection. Recently renovated, the Rita J. and Stanley H. Kaplan Family Foundation Gallery is reopening with an exhibition that features 150 objects from the collection. The gallery will highlight ancient artifacts dating back 6,000 years, as well as costume jewelry, fine jewelry, and contemporary pieces by artists such as Wallace Chan and Feng J. —Jeanne Malle
