Painter Ben Quilty is influenced by his lived experience in contemporary Australia, in particular his experience of drug and alcohol culture. “Emu Man, the washed up old superhero,” he says, “might be a self-portrait, unable to repair the past and incapable of changing the future but happily surviving Covid.” This exhibition features recent figurative paintings created in Quilty’s typical impasto style, made during pandemic lockdowns. —Clara Molot
