The director Wes Anderson has little difficulty assembling a Who’s Who cast, but of all his films the ensemble for this summer’s Asteroid City may well take the cake. Almost alarmingly star-studded, it includes Margot Robbie, Tom Hanks, Maya Hawke, and Scarlett Johansson as well as Anderson-universe regulars Jason Schwartzman, Jeff Goldblum, Adrien Brody, and Edward Norton. They all touch down in a nondescript desert town for a “Junior Stargazer convention,” a premise that would be notably eccentric if directed by another yet seems a natural progression from The French Dispatch’s silhouetted France or The Grand Budapest Hotel’s fictional Zubrowka. Expect your typical Andersonian oddball humor, idiosyncratic cinematography, and striking poignancy. And maybe aliens. —Jack Sullivan
