2021’s Squid Game frenzy was unavoidable. Created by Hwang Dong-hyuuk, the Korean series was talked about everywhere. When unsuspecting viewers, hoping to discover what all the chatter was about, made it to that fatal game of “red light, green light” midway through the first episode, they were simultaneously shocked, disgusted, and, yes, many were hooked. Obviously, Squid Game isn’t for everyone. There’s a lot of death—and little philosophical justification for it. The show is actually a spectacle. And if you’re looking for something to keep you on your toes, to frighten you and excite you, there’s little better on television. The leading hero Gi-hun, played by Lee Jung-jae, returns in Season Two. Rest assured the stakes will (somehow) be higher. —Jack Sullivan
