Arcmanoro Niles: You Know I Used To Love You but Now I Don't Think I Can: There Ain't No Right Way To Say Goodbye Again

Amarco Niles, Growing Up May Be The Hardest Thing I Do (Healing Doesn’t Happen In A Straight Line), 2022.

Nov 9, 2022 – Jan 7, 2023
1 Cromwell Place, South Kensington, SW7 2JE London

The D.C.-born and New York-based painter Arcmanoro Niles invites viewers into intimate settings—kitchens, bedrooms, passenger seats—intensified by jewel tones and bursts of neon. The work is restrained but the canvases are full. Even the winding title of this exhibition hints at how much more there is to say. That’s because the show, Niles’s first in Europe, explores what it means to say goodbye—to a lover, a friend, a place, a feeling, or life itself. “Painting has been a way for me to approach topics that I felt like I couldn’t talk about growing up and things I feel like we don’t always know how to talk about now,” Niles explains. His work speaks for itself. —Clara Molot
