Aaron Sorkin has been busy. Alongside The Social Reckoning, the sequel to his 2010 film The Social Network, he returns to Broadway with a revival of A Few Good Men, the 1989 play that launched his career. A military courtroom drama, it’s about the court-martial of two Marines accused of killing a fellow Marine at Guantanamo Bay, in Cuba. Digging into the circumstances of the death, the case raises hard questions about obedience and military authority. For the revival, Sorkin reworked the original script for a contemporary audience, adding what he described as an emphasis on “a search for decency.” The play feels particularly timely, as debates over military power, executive authority, and institutional accountability have moved to the center of American politics. —Clara Scholl
