Galleria Continua describes Antony Gormley’s latest solo show, “Body Buildings,” as an examination of “our species’ relationship to the built environment, an increasingly high-rise world we rarely escape.” In his third exhibition at the gallery’s Beijing location, the British artist presents recent sculptures and drawings crafted from clay and iron—materials foundational to urban landscapes. The show’s centerpiece, Resting Place II, is a collection of 132 life-size figures created from stacked clay bricks. From a distance, these appear as pixelated forms or a strange housing development, but closer up they read as human bodies in many positions—a reflection of our fierce connection to the ground. The installation forms a fascinating answer to Gormley’s ongoing questions: When it comes to space, what is finite? What is infinite? And where does the human body fit in? —Jeanne Malle
