The Arts Intel Report

Anni Albers

Sept 10 – Oct 19, 2019
537 W 20th St, New York, NY 10011, United States

“We must come down to earth from the clouds where we live in vagueness,” the American-German artist Anni Albers wrote in 1938, “and experience the most real thing there is: material.” Tiptoeing the line between craft and art, Albers, who died in 1994, was known for her wall hangings and weavings as well as her colorful works on paper. This exhibition looks at the impact of Latin American art and culture on Albers’s work, and includes her 10-foot-wall hanging Camino Real, on view for the first time outside of Mexico. —J.V.
