The canvases of the French artist Anne-Lise Coste bring Dada to mind. With airbrush, spray paint, lacquer, and acrylic, Coste creates large abstractions that tap into her own emotional climate as well as the political pressures that contour the world. Words, images, and objects float in and out of her visual fields—a suggestion of graffiti culture and Art Brut. After time spent in Zurich and New York, Coste is now settled in the South of France, in the countryside. This exhibition presents recent work, much of it shown at the Kunsthaus Basel last spring. —Elena Clavarino
