In honor of the centenary of the birth of Maria Callas, her Russian camp follower Anna Netrebko has assembled a box of choice bonbons. Only the most obsessive of fans will know which of the arias on the program are associated with La Divina and which are not. “Printemps qui commence,” from the Saint-Saëns Biblical spectacular Samson et Dalila? Nyet (though Callas did record the Philistine temptress’s better-known “Mon coeur s’ouvre à ta voix”). The heroine’s “Liebestod” from Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde? Da. Callas did record that one, very early in her career. Will Anna sing it in Italian rather than German, as Maria did? We’ll see. And about the aria from Tchaikovsky’s Queen of Spades? Guess. —Matthew Gurewitsch
