American Travelers: A Watercolor Journey Through Spain, Portugal, and Mexico

Peets Jacaranda Tree.

June 17 – Oct 16, 2022
613 W 155th St, New York, NY 10032, United States

Physically you may be on 155th and Broadway, but spiritually you will find yourself in Spain, Portugal, and Mexico. The Hispanic Museum and Library presents 94 watercolor paintings by American artists beguiled by Hispanic culture—Childe Hassam, Orville Houghton Peets, and Milan Petrovic, to name three. Taking Joaquín Sorolla as inspiration, these artists abroad transport us to luscious gardens, Baroque churches, and cobblestone streets. The exhibition also includes a subsection dedicated to the works of Timothy J. Clark, an American urban landscape painter born in 1951. —Thalia Bonas
