The 1920s and 1930s were crucial decades for Alberto Giacometti. In 1925, the Swiss sculptor exhibited his work for the first time, at the Salon des Tuileries, and in 1932 he had his first solo show in Paris. Two years later came his first solo show in New York. Having fallen in with the French Surrealists in the early 30s, Giacometti began developing his signature heads and nude figures, a response to political changes in Europe that were pointing toward war. Featuring around 90 works, ranging from sculpture to painting to drawing, this exhibition focuses on Giacometti’s formative years. —Jeanne Malle
