“The best fashion show is always the street,” said the late Bill Cunningham, the beloved photographer who biked around New York City to capture la mode. Cunningham is but one of many photographers to be represented in Nicola Erni’s extensive collection; others are Avedon, Elgort, Hiro, Horst, Lindbergh, Newton, Penn, Watson, and more. On view in a public institution for the first time, this exhibition features more than 250 high fashion and street-style photographs, along with rare vintage prints, Polaroids, and original collages. The show is organized by theme and synergy. Erni’s close relationship with many of the artists adds a personal perspective, as a substantial number of unique prints were produced especially for her collection. —Nyla Gilstrap
