55th Edition: New Directors / New Films

Apr 8–19, 2026

The 55th edition of the New Directors/New Films (ND/NF) festival takes place at two venues—the Museum of Modern Art and Film at Lincoln Center—from April 8 to 19. Unlike Wim Wenders’s much-derided apolitical approach as president of the 2026 Berlinale Jury, the ND/NF co-chair Dan Sullivan says that this year’s festival lineup “is replete with artists who—to paraphrase Jean-Luc Godard—aren’t afraid to make political films nor to make films politically.” Focused on promising young auteurs “with distinctive visions and bold new ideas that push the art form into new terrain,” the festival’s 24 features and 10 shorts from more than 25 countries will be shown with the filmmakers attending in person. Opening night sees Adrian Chairella’s directorial debut Leviticus (which premiered at the 2026 Sundance Midnight section), and closing night screens the U.S. debut of Rosanne Pel’s Donkey Days (after a 2025 Locarno Film Festival premiere). Other highlights include Pete Ohs’s Erupcja, starring Charli XCX and Jeremy O. Harris, on April 11 and 12, and Sho Miyake’s Golden Leopard-winning Two Seasons, Two Strangers on April 17 and 19. (An exclusive one-week engagement of Miyake’s film will follow at the Metrograph starting on April 24.) —Spike Carter
