Zoe Leonard: Al Río/To the River

Feb 26 – June 6, 2022
3 Park Drai Eechelen, 1499 Luxembourg

Beginning in 2016, the New York artist Zoe Leonard embarked on an expedition: she would take photographs along the Rio Grande, specifically the 2,000 kilometers that demarcate the boundary between the United States and Mexico. On her journey, Leonard traveled through border cities like Ciudad Juarez and El Paso, heading toward the Gulf of Mexico, where the river flows into the Atlantic. She paid close attention to each environment, both man-made and natural, and shot industrial buildings and spotless mountain ranges, untouched water and farms. Her quest? To record the true nature of the border, which has been lost in stereotypical media depictions. —Elena Clavarino
