“I probably would never have become a printmaker if I hadn’t been hit by a car turning left without signaling on my bicycle,” says the artist Tom Killion, who then “had to spend four months in a full leg cast, and therefore I couldn’t go out surfing and bike riding and playing with friends, and I was forced to do something productive and this is what I ended up doing.” He made his first book, a series of woodcut prints, rudimentary, yes, but already touched with artistry. If you’ve ever wondered what goes into a woodcut print—it’s quite conceptual—Killion takes you through it step by step in this wonderful video. Be sure to check out the other great video offerings on the MAD site. —L.J.
