There isn’t a “typical” Wolfgang Tillmans image, though you could say there’s a Tillmans tone. Since the beginning of his career, in 1988, he’s been shooting snapshot-like portraits of friends, casual landscapes, even the objects on his kitchen table. As he recently told Office magazine, he aims to “represent [things and people] in a way that doesn’t bend them into something they are not.” Since his 2022 exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art, Tillmans is having a moment, not least because the raw yet concentrated energy of his work appeals to Generation Z. This exhibition, which spans two of Zwirner’s locations on 19th Street, presents his latest series, “Fold Me,” as well as photographs that have never been on view before. —Elena Clavarino
