Wim Wenders: Photographing Ground Zero

Sept 10, 2021 – Jan 9, 2022
Lambeth Rd, London SE1 6HZ, United Kingdom

Back in November 2001, the Oscar-winning filmmaker Wim Wenders was at Ground Zero, documenting the catastrophic destruction that had taken place there just two months earlier. Men in cranes were hard at work, clearing the rubble that was once the Twin Towers. On the 20-year anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Wenders’s large-scale shots from those dark days will be on view. “My panoramic camera captures this amazing message: Something terrible, altogether infernal has happened here,” Wenders explains, “But please, let this not become a ground for more hate, let the lives that were taken here not become the reason for more bloodshed.” —E.C.
