In the early 1970s, when William Wegman was a Conceptual artist living in California, he experimented with photographs, drawings, and videos. He began adding text to his experiments, which complicated the images and their meanings. During those years Wegman also acquired his first Weimaraner, whom he sketched and photographed day in and day out. When Wegman moved to New York, in 1973, he left many of his unfinished conceptual works behind. John Baldessari, the next artist to use the studio, found the prints and negatives, and eventually returned them to Wegman. For this exhibition, Wegman has reconstructed new images from those early unfinished works. —Elena Clavarino
