“Several years ago, I got this idea to interview women about their first marriages and what went wrong,” Joy Behar recently told the Asbury Park Press. “I was curious about why people get divorced, because I went through it myself and it was just hideous.” Drawing from these testimonies, the comedian and television host created a collection of monologues that became My First Ex-Husband—a sharp, humorous exploration of the highs and lows of romantic relationships. The play delves into the lives of women who are not only married to their work and their wallets but to imperfect husbands. Behar, Susie Essman, Tovah Feldshuh, and Adrienne C. Moore take the stage for the first four months of the show. The cast will then rotate monthly, with performances by actors such as Andrea Navedo, Veanne Cox, and Gina Gershon. —Jeanne Malle
