Wardell Milan

Oct 29, 2020 – Jan 15, 2021
49 Geary St #450, San Francisco, CA 94108, United States

American artist Wardell Milan combines photography, drawing, painting, collage, and sculpture to shocking effect. He travels to historical sites loaded with emotional significance—the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, for instance, where Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated—and then populates the place with human figures. In these large-scale pieces one may see hooded Klansmen looming over a city, or colorful flowers blooming among monotonal chaos. Freedom, desire, indulgence, death, and destruction are Milan’s themes in this show. —E.C.
