Vanessa Gully Santiago: Young Professional

Dec 4, 2020 – Jan 1, 2021
55 Delancey St, New York, NY 10002, United States

Wishing to present a well-groomed facade, corporations spend huge amounts making their offices architecturally coherent and orderly. Yet despite the formality conveyed by marble foyers and pressed shirts, hidden romance, personal frustration, and abuse exists within company walls. In a new body of work created over the last three years, Vanessa Gully Santiago captures this shadow world. Her stylized figures convey an air of secret despair, alienation, and madness—the disorder that occurs between the desks and the copy machines. —E.C.
