We all know the story of Vincent van Gogh. His solitary life in Arles. His tumultuous friendship with Paul Gauguin. His bouts of madness and hallucination. His severed ear, which he cut off with a kitchen knife. In July 29, 1890, at age 37, he ended it, pointing a gun to his chest in a field in Auvers. For this exhibition, 50 works from the Kroller Müller Museum in Otterlo have traveled to Rome. The show is organized in chronological order, linking Van Gogh’s paintings to his tragic milestones. —Elena Clavarino
