In their satirical sculptures, installations, and performances, the Scandinavian duo Michael Elmgreen and Ingar Dragset reappraise mundane objects and designs. These are the men who brainstormed the “installed sculpture” Prada Marfa—a wildly out-of-place, non-functioning Prada boutique built in an empty stretch of southwest Texas—and Van Gogh’s Ear, the upright swimming pool at the Rockefeller Plaza. In a sprawling 2,000-square-meter exhibition that takes up the courtyard and gallery spaces at Fondazione Prada, the duo reconsider the role of the human body in an increasingly digital world. Will our bodies become a hindrance to our existence? Are we now the product as opposed to the producer? —Elena Clavarino
