The German photographer Thomas Struth, born in 1954, is an alumnus of Düsseldorf Academy, where he studied painting under Gerhard Richter. Struth was also drawn to photography and joined a class that included fellow students Candida Hofer and Axel Hutte. He stayed with photography. Struth’s photographs may seem flat at first glance, avoiding contrasts of color and light. He studies his subjects intensely, and his landscapes are distilled. This exhibition of new work sees a photo series on high-tech scientific machinery, plus large landscapes and some portraits. —Elena Clavarino
