Dion Boucicault’s The Streets of New York, an adaptation of Les Pauvres de Paris by Édouard Brisbarre and Eugène Nus, was first staged on Broadway in 1857. It chronicles The Panic of 1837, when banks in the Big Apple ran out of gold and silver. In the midst of it all, Gideon Bloodgood, a corrupt banker, does something unforgivable. Twenty years later, retribution. This production with music is directed by the acclaimed Charlotte Moore. —E.C.
