“She would bat her Bambi eyelashes,” wrote the late film critic Pauline Kael in her 1973 review of Norman Mailer’s book Marilyn, “wiggle that pert and tempting bottom, and use her hushed voice to caress us with dizzying innuendos.” The brilliant Kael goes on to suggest that Monroe was really the first of “the Warhol superstars.” Marilyn Monroe is on view at the HGU Hotel, where 18 photographs from Bert Stern’s “The Last Sitting”—a shoot commissioned by Vogue in 1962—grace the public spaces.
