Even before The Pretenders, Chrisse Hynde seemed fated for fame. In 1972, she drove to Cleveland for a Bowie concert and ended up taking the rock star to dinner. A year later, she moved to London and found her voice, the smoky, sweet, yet distinctly punk sound that set The Pretenders apart from other London bands. Hynde and her band return to the U.S. for one day this summer. Go. And hope you get to take Hynde out to dinner after. —C.J.F.
