Emily Maitlis, the former Newsnight host and the journalist who conducted Prince Andrew’s disastrous interview, is finally free from the BBC, her employer of two decades. Maitlis announced her resignation in February, having signed with Global to host a new podcast with Jon Sopel and Lewis Goodall. Less than a week ago, at the Edinburgh TV Festival, Maitlis was candid about her issues with the BBC, accusing the outlet of letting an “active Tory agent” shape its news agenda, among other things. On August 30, Maitlis’s The News Agents podcast was launched with an episode titled “Trump: Prison or President?” The BBC chose the same date to relaunch Maitlis’s Americanist podcast with new hosts, one of whom was meant to be on holiday. —Clara Molot
