If you’re a cinephile, the Criterion Channel’s “Closet Picks” series is probably on your radar. The videos feature prominent actors and directors perusing a makeshift library of movies old and new, popular and obscure. They choose a film, describe why it’s important to them, and then choose another. Recent participants include Lee Daniels, Winona Ryder, Lily Gladstone, and Viggo Mortensen. Go back a little further and you’ll find episodes with Willem Dafoe, Cate Blanchett, John Waters, and Terry Gilliam. This year, the Criterion Channel is bringing an actual van to the New York Film Festival, outfitted with the Criterion Closet’s archive and offering attendees the chance to shop the same library as the show’s on-screen guests. Arrive early; there’ll be a line. —Jack Sullivan
The Criterion Mobile Closet will be available at the New York Film Festival on September 28-29, and October 5-6, from 11 A.M. until 9 P.M.
