In Vienna, the Mumok collection includes nearly 500 works featuring animals. In an exhibition featuring these pieces, however, the focus is less on animals than on human bodies. “The Animal Within” asks us to face the creatures we innately are, and also those species that remind us of ourselves. How does sex drive our lives? How does power change our relationships? What is this life force we all share, from mouse to elephant to man? —Clara Molot
