East meets West. The London-based artists collective Tangram blends the sounds of Chinese and Western instruments in a globe-circling banquet of classical, Chinese classical, pop, and folk music. For added spice, look to two contemporary pop icons: Emmy The Great, per The Guardian one of the boldest young writers in the field, and Mantawoman, billed as a voice for queer Chinese identity. The concert takes place at the London Symphony Orchestra’s community and music-education LSO St. Luke, in historic Islington. Originally a house of worship, the renovated landmark was built by Nicholas Hawksmoor, a Baroque architect whose hallmark is an eerie austerity. No one has captured the brooding poetry of his London churches better than the novelist Peter Ackroyd, whose prize-winning murder mystery Hawksmoor shuttles supernaturally between 18th-century London and the 1980s.
