While Marcel Duchamp called him “the ploughman of magnetic fields,” the Greek artist Takis (1925–2019) described himself as an “instinctive scientist.” Takis was fascinated by the work of physicists and engineers, and actively sought to bridge the gap between art and science. His practice was based on the exploration of forms, movement, and sound—including the bioelectromagnetics of the human brain and the intricacies of electrical circuits. In this exhibition, sculptures from a 30-year period are on display, including pieces that harness the fourth dimension. Lest this sound too highfalutin, it’s good to remember that Takis also associated with the Beat poets and the Beatles. —E.C.
