The fin de siècle in Munich, Vienna, and Berlin! It was a time of immense creativity, new understanding of the unconscious, and the stirrings of modernism. Symbolism, Art Nouveau, and Impressionism all offered liberating avenues of expression and were highlighted at Secession events. The artists of this time, in these cities, included Gustav Klimt, Franz von Stuck, Max Liebermann, Josef Hoffmann, and more than 70 others. Exploring their legacies, and the influence of the cities they inhabited, this exhibition holds 200 paintings, sculptures, and graphic works. It’s also the most comprehensive presentation of Klimt’s work to be shown in Berlin. —Elena Clavarino
