The American painter Sasha Gordon has been drawing forever. Growing up in Somers, New York, her mother set her up with crayons, colored pencils, and paper when she was four. A year later, she was taking classes at a local art center. It was during her sophomore year at RISD, in 2016, that Gordon started exploring her complex identity. Her father is a Jewish Polish American, her mother is Korean, and Gordon identifies as queer. Her self-portraits present the many facets of her existence. In 2019, while she was still in college, Matthew Brown gallery offered her a solo show. At a mere 26, she now makes her museum debut with this large-scale exhibition in Miami. —Elena Clavarino
