The Colorado-born painter Robert Ginder, now in his 70s, likes to elevate the mundane. Using classical techniques, he brings a touch of 14th-century religious iconography to contemporary subjects. The stucco homes and palm trees of Southern California, where he lives, are enshrined under gold-leaf skies, and simple still lifes rest against glowing gold backgrounds. Ginder moves between the West Coast and New York, where he keeps a studio. This show in Los Angeles presents some of his newest creations. —Elena Clavarino
