Rising Phoenix: Road to Tokyo tells the story of 12 athletes from 11 countries as they prepare for the Tokyo Paralympic Games. The three-part series is produced and directed by the team behind the 2020 Emmy Award-winning documentary Rising Phoenix, which covered the history of the Paralympic Games. The series, available for free on YouTube, follows the subjects—among them, a deaf equestrian from Singapore and a wheelchair basketball player from Afghanistan—as they face personal challenges in the lead-up to the games, including the eventual postponement of the entire event due to the coronavirus pandemic. The series concludes triumphantly with the games themselves: they took place a year later, in the summer of 2021. —Paulina Prosnitz
