It was Myrtis Bedolla, the Baltimore-based owner of Galerie Myrtis, who discovered Amy Sherald and Jamia Richmond Edwards. A true visionary, Bedolla has spent her entire life fighting for the visibility of black artists. At this critical time in U.S. history, when awareness of racial injustice is front and center, UTA Artist Space has invited Bedolla to curate a virtual exhibition that features emerging black artists. Each reflects on his or her personal narrative, as well as—in the words of Arthur Lewis, creative director of UTA Artist Space—“the narrative of Blackness.” —E.C.
