Premio Gregor von Rezzori—Città di Firenze

The Premio Gregor von Rezzori—conceived by the Santa Maddalena Foundation and its chair, Beatrice Monti della Corte—is an international literary festival that brings foreign authors and translators together for conversation. It also bestows an annual award on the best work of foreign fiction translated in Italy (the winner is chosen by an international jury). Ordinarily, prior to the awards ceremony at the Palazzo Vecchio, where the winner is announced, shortlisted authors would gather in Florence for meetings with their readers and translators. This year, the Premio takes place online. Among the highlights: a conversation between Edmund White (who is on the Premio’s jury) and Richard Powers, whose book The Overstory made the short list this year; and Ralph Fiennes reading excerpts from the 1992 film version of Wuthering Heights (Monica Pareschi was just awarded the Premio’s prize for Best Translation Into Italian of the Emily Brontë classic). —J.V.
