William Holman Hunt, John Everett Millais, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Edward Burne-Jones … The Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood was definitely a boys club, but it deified women, often locating them in settings mythological, religious, and literary. For too long the “sisters” of the Brotherhood, who posed for and inspired the females in these paintings, have been relegated to the realm of muse. This exhibition looks beyond the canvas to show their own creative work in the world. —L.J.
