Entering the world of Pipilotti Rist is always a treat—it’s colorful, fast-paced, and all-encompassing. The Swiss artist has pioneered the field of spatial video art. In other words, you are able to enter her creations. In fact, in Chelsea her work is too big to be held in a single gallery. Hauser & Wirth’s 22nd Street location and Huring Austine’s 24th Street location are hosting a joint exhibition. Enter Rist’s living room at Hauser & Wirth; two blocks north you’ll find her expansive garden. The artist plays with ideas of interior and exterior, space physical and psychological. What does it mean for an inside to be transformed through art into an outside? What does it mean to leave and then renter Rist’s world from an entirely new vantage point?
