In Paris, at the start of the 20th century, women began to be recognized as members of the art world, something more than just muses and models who deepened the vision of male artists. Previously unaccessible institutions inched open their doors, and by the 1920s these “new women” owned studios, galleries, and publishing houses, ran naked workshops, were designers, dancers, and architects. This exhibition recognizes the creative energy they generated. Women on the roster include Sonia Delaunay, Chana Orloff, Tamara de Lempicka, and Tarsila do Amaral. —Elena Clavarino
